Melaka, 10 Things + Travel Tips

Before stepping foot in Melaka, I envisioned old buildings, old buildings, and more old buildings. It was only when I actually stepped foot into the city that I realized my research was not as in-depth as I thought it was because (1) I forgot Malacca is actually one of the states of Malaysia, and (2) I didn’t realize it is a city, a modern city, a really modern city. Where to Stay in Melaka: Layang-Layang Guesthouse via AirBnB

Layang-layang Guesthouse was one of the many gems I found in Melaka. This was my first time to book with AirBnB, and my first time was great! The search in AirBnB started when I could not find a good hotel in the city that was within our budget, which was P500 to P600 per night per person. Anyhow, despite the absence of tasting real Melakan food, I think we had a great time in the wonderful city in terms of food. River Walk in Melaka

We did not pay for any tour services in Melaka because there is no need. The guesthouse where we stayed informed us that there are free walking tours every Thursdays at 9AM and 1PM at the tourism office (this is the building located at the foot of the bridge across H&M store). I think the free walking tour would have been great because the tour guides would provide information of the place but the schedule didn’t fit our schedule. So, we did our own walking tour. Continue reading “River Walk in Melaka”

Bus Travel to Melaka + Redbus.sg Booking Tips

The road to Melaka was easy. As I’ve mentioned here, I booked our bus tickets through Redbus.sg and used my BDO debit card to pay for the tickets. I choose to book our tickets with Redbus because I noticed they were giving 20% discount for all ticket purchases. Even if its just a few dollars, it’s still savings.
